A 47-year-old Nepali woman, Balika Sen, was killed by a herd of elephants while returning home from fields near the Katarniaghat forest area bordering India and Nepal. Other women working with her escaped. Her severely mutilated body was found the next morning on the Nepali side of the border. While villagers initially suspected a tiger due to the body's condition, forest officials stated no tiger footprints were found, suggesting another wild animal may have scavenged the remains after the elephant attack.
