Following the accidental discovery of a copper pot containing 470 grams of gold ornaments estimated to be 300 to 400 years old, Karnataka authorities have initiated a full-scale excavation at the Kote Veerabhadreshwara Temple in Lakkundi. The project involves multiple government departments and aims to explore a demarcated 10-by-10-metre area. Lakkundi, historically ruled by several dynasties and known for ancient gold coin minting, has yielded thousands of artefacts and precious stones, suggesting significant buried wealth linked to the region's medieval history.
