A 25-year-old PhD scholar, Ramswaroop Ishram, died by suicide at IIT Kanpur after jumping from a campus residential building. He had been battling mental health issues, including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, anxiety, and depression, and was receiving treatment and counselling. This marks the second student suicide at IIT Kanpur within a month, following a final-year BTech student's death in December. The institute has formed a fact-finding committee and mandated mental health screenings for new students to enhance support and prevention efforts.
