Over 8 lakh candidates appeared on March 8 for the West Bengal School Service Commission's State Level Selection Test (SLST) to fill 5,489 Group D non-teaching vacancies in government-aided schools. The exam, held across 1,707 centres in a single shift, featured OMR-based questions on general knowledge, arithmetic, and reasoning. Strict security measures prohibited electronic devices and closed footwear. The recruitment follows a Supreme Court order invalidating the 2016 SSC process, leading to job terminations and a fresh hiring drive. Concurrently, train cancellations and rescheduling in Howrah and Asansol divisions caused travel disruptions for candidates.
