A scientific study of swamp soil in Kaziranga National Park, Assam, has revealed the evolution of its vegetation over 3,000 years, explaining its suitability as a habitat for the Indian one-horned rhinoceros. The research, published in the journal Catena, also indicates the migration of large herbivores to the northeastern region from other parts of the subcontinent. Scientists analyzed soil samples to reconstruct changes in vegetation, climate, and animal movement over time, detailing distinct phases of forest density and water conditions.
