
A 50-year-old farmer, Gaurang Mahato, was fatally trampled by a wild elephant while sleeping in his barn in Jharkhand's Seraikela-Kharswan district. Forest department officials and police responded to the incident in Letemda village. The deceased's family received Rs 50,000 as immediate compensation, with further government provisions promised. Villagers were also provided with torches and firecrackers to deter elephants and advised to avoid venturing out at night.
