A Canadian study involving over 30,000 older adults found a 40% higher likelihood of mental health conditions, including anxiety and mood disorders, in those with obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA). The research, published in JAMA Network Open, followed participants aged 45-85 for about three years. High risk of OSA was consistently linked to worse mental health outcomes over time. Factors like being female, having lower income, and poorer health also correlated with increased mental health risks, suggesting a need for systematic screening.
