
The Maharashtra government reported over 93,000 adult women and more than 23,000 minor girls went missing in 2024 and 2025, with recovery rates of approximately 72% for women and over 80% for minor girls. Operation Muskaan, launched in 2015, has rescued over 41,000 missing minors, with its 14th phase ongoing. Authorities emphasize ongoing efforts using intelligence and coordination to trace missing persons, including nearly 5,000 teenagers aged 15-18, of whom 96% were found.
