A massive fire broke out early on March 5 in a densely packed shanty cluster known as Bengali Basti near Rithala Metro Station in northwest Delhi, destroying over 100 huts and displacing dozens of migrant families. Firefighters deployed around 18 tenders controlled the blaze by 6:30 am. Tragically, a 17-year-old girl, Rozina Khatun, died after returning to retrieve new Eid clothes. The fire spread rapidly due to close proximity of huts and flammable materials. The cause remains under investigation.
