The Kerala Catholic Bishops Conference (KCBC) has criticized the Kerala government for the rising number of liquor outlets and alleged insufficient action against alcohol and drug abuse. Despite earlier promises to limit alcohol availability, the number of bars, liquor outlets, and toddy shops has increased significantly. The KCBC highlighted the spread of narcotic drugs like MDMA and hybrid cannabis, with around 1,400 schools reportedly becoming drug hotspots. The Church urges stronger efforts to protect youth and families from addiction and related social harms.
