A 30-year-old wild elephant was electrocuted on January 19 while foraging in agricultural land near Palamaner in Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh. The elephant, which had strayed from nearby forests or sanctuary areas, came into contact with a live overhead power line. Forest officials conducted a post-mortem and planned to bury the carcass onsite. Local farmers have urged authorities to raise power lines and transformers to prevent similar incidents.
