Uttarakhand is experiencing a troubling rise in human-wildlife conflict, with leopards and Asiatic black bears now posing a greater threat than tigers. Over the past decade, leopards have caused over 200 human fatalities and more than 1,000 injuries, while bear attacks result in severe mauling. This shift is attributed to conservation successes increasing tiger populations, forcing leopards into human-inhabited areas. This new reality is making life increasingly difficult for mountain communities.
