The Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission (MSHRC) has condemned the practice of chaining mentally ill patients near the Sailani Baba Dargah in Buldhana, describing it as inhuman and a stigma on society. Following a suo motu case and a survey revealing hundreds of patients, including those with schizophrenia, the Commission urged the state government to improve mental healthcare facilities and protect patients from unqualified practitioners. It emphasized the need for scientific treatment and respect for patients' dignity under the Mental Healthcare Act, 2017.
