A household-level flood loss assessment in North Bihar, covering 2,290 families across seven districts after the 2024 floods, reveals that flood damage is predictable, unequal, and linked to current flood management policies. The study highlights that official statistics aggregate damage, masking the significant median household loss of ₹2.11 lakh, which can deplete savings. Land and housing damages constitute the largest portions of these recurring losses, questioning the inevitability of such devastation.
