The Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, will host the country's first Holi celebration on Monday, following ancient traditions. Priests will symbolically offer one kilogram of herbal gulal to Lord Mahakal during the evening aarti, followed by a Holika burning with Vedic chants. For safety, devotees are restricted from the Holika site. On Tuesday, Dhuleti will feature a Bhasma Aarti with special adornments. The temple will shift to its summer schedule from March 3, and specific rituals will adjust during the eclipse period.
