Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve has completed formalities to translocate about 50 wild Asiatic water buffaloes to Madhya Pradesh's Kanha Tiger Reserve in phases. The initial plan to move 15 buffaloes may be adjusted to five or six to assess feasibility. Capturing will begin on March 18-19 using tranquilisation, following ongoing mock drills. This initiative aims to reintroduce buffaloes to Kanha and enhance species conservation by expanding their range. Kaziranga currently hosts over 1,000 Asiatic water buffaloes.
