Nine Cheetahs from Botswana Arrive at Madhya Pradesh's Kuno National Park, India's Population Reaches 48

Nine cheetahs from Botswana arrived at Madhya Pradesh's Kuno National Park, raising India's total cheetah population to 48 under the four-year Project Cheetah revival plan. The big cats, comprising six females and three males, were airlifted by the Indian Air Force and placed in quarantine enclosures for health monitoring before gradual release. This marks the third batch from Africa, following earlier translocations from Namibia and South Africa. Since 2023, 39 cubs have been born in India, with 27 surviving, reflecting progress amid challenges in restoring the species extinct since 1952.
