Two master weavers from Chemancheri, Kozhikode, were invited to the Republic Day event in New Delhi for their expertise in 'Kuppadam' handloom textiles. Kamala, a weaver of Kuppadam saris, and Shyamala, a weaver of Kuppadam dhotis, are recognized for preserving this unique two-weaver technique. Kuppadam textiles are known for their intricate, spontaneously designed patterns and premium quality, often passed down through generations, with political leaders among their patrons.
