Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a significant public health issue, exacerbated by high air pollution levels, particularly in regions like Delhi NCR. Unlike heart disease, COPD has no cure, and lost lung function is largely irreversible, making early intervention critical. Indians exhibit poorer adult lung function globally, attributed to environmental factors and potentially genetics. While treatments can manage symptoms and slow progression, they cannot restore lung capacity, highlighting the need for proactive measures against air quality degradation.
