A study published in The Lancet Global Health warns that rising temperatures due to climate change could increase physical inactivity worldwide by 2050, potentially causing 470,000 to 700,000 additional premature deaths annually and productivity losses up to $3.7 billion. The effect is expected to be stronger in low- and middle-income countries, including India, where mortality linked to heat-driven inactivity may reach about 10.6 deaths per 100,000 people. This trend could hinder global efforts to reduce inactivity as recommended by the WHO.
