Kerala to Launch Light-and-Sound Show in Renovated Chilakoor Tunnel to Boost Tourism

The renovated Chilakoor Tunnel near Varkala, part of Kerala's Akkulam-Chettuva Waterway project, is set to boost water-based tourism with the launch of India's first light-and-sound show inside a tunnel. Scheduled for inauguration by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in February 2026, the show uses advanced video mapping technology to depict the life and teachings of social reformer Sree Narayana Guru, alongside Kerala's cultural heritage. An electric boat ride equipped with laser projectors will offer visitors an immersive experience, highlighting the tunnel's historical and logistical significance.
