Ahead of the annual Makaravilakku festival at Sabarimala, Kerala authorities have implemented extensive security and safety measures, including deployment of around 2,000 police personnel and restrictions on pilgrim entry to the temple complex. The Thiruvabharanam procession is scheduled for the evening, with devotees advised to view the Makara Jyothi from designated points. District administrations have arranged traffic management, medical aid, and wildlife monitoring. Despite preparations, heavy pilgrim influx caused congestion and protests over movement restrictions. Over 51 lakh devotees visited during the season, with officials planning a post-festival review.
