Despite a ₹26.40 crore beautification project and other initiatives by the Tiruchi Corporation to restore water bodies, many continue to suffer from neglect. Projects for Kollankulam, Kottapattu Periyakulam, and Mavadikulam face issues like water hyacinth, wastewater discharge, encroachments, and poor maintenance, hindering their intended benefits of groundwater recharge and recreation. While new allocations have been made for other tanks, these are yet to materialize, drawing criticism from residents and activists.
