The Forest Department plans to establish bio-shields by planting 19,250 mangrove seedlings across 25 hectares in three coastal villages—Mumpalai, Muthukuda, and Vadakku Ammapattinam—in Pudukottai district. This initiative, under the TN-SHORE project, aims to enhance coastal biodiversity, protect against cyclones and tsunamis, preserve shorelines, and support local livelihoods. Seedlings are being raised near the South Vellar estuary with community involvement and are scheduled for planting before the northeast monsoon.
