Berth 9 at V.O. Chidambaranar Port in Thoothukudi, operating under a Public-Private Partnership model, features a workforce with about 45 women engaged in diverse roles including administrative tasks, rubber tyre gantry (RTG) crane operation, wharf checking, medical services, and planning. Women constitute the majority of RTG crane operators and hold key positions in planning teams, marking a notable shift in traditionally male-dominated port operations.
