NGT Seeks Response from CPCB and Assam Govt on Elephant Deaths in Train Collision

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has issued notices to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Assam government, and other authorities seeking responses over the death of seven elephants hit by the Sairang-New Delhi Rajdhani Express near Guwahati on December 20, 2025. The collision caused the train's engine and five coaches to derail on the Jamunamukh-Kampur section. The NGT cited environmental concerns and scheduled the matter for hearing on January 28 in Kolkata. Assam officials have initiated an inquiry, noting factors like heavy fog.
