
The Delhi Zoo experienced a surge in visitors on New Year's Day 2026, welcoming 25,111 people, an 86% increase compared to regular weekdays. Zoo authorities implemented special arrangements, including additional entry/exit gates, enhanced security, and upgraded CCTV surveillance, to manage the crowd. The zoo, which houses 96 species across 176 acres, had previously reopened on November 8 after a temporary closure due to avian influenza.
