The Karnataka government is facilitating the establishment of a 1,000-bed multi-speciality hospital in Bengaluru, in collaboration with the Azim Premji Foundation. The hospital will offer free organ transplants for the poor, with the foundation investing ₹1,000 crore for its setup and ₹350 crore annually for maintenance. The government will provide 10 acres of land on a 99-year lease. The facility, expected to be fully operational within five years, will provide transplants for kidneys, livers, lungs, and other organs, with a significant portion of beds offered free or at nominal costs covered by insurance schemes.
