Two complex liver transplant surgeries in India recently saved young children and adult patients using donated livers. In Pune, a split liver transplant from a brain-dead donor helped a 6-year-old girl with acute liver failure and a 58-year-old man with chronic liver disease recover successfully. Separately, a six-month-old infant with congenital biliary atresia underwent a high-risk transplant using a liver from the youngest deceased donor in the state, leading to stabilized liver function and discharge. Both procedures involved multidisciplinary medical teams and highlight advances in transplant surgery.
