Deepak, a 25-year-old from Haryana, returned home after over three months in a Russian immigration detention center, describing harsh conditions including hunger, electric shocks when requesting toilet breaks, and forced consumption of beef, which many Indian detainees avoided. He had paid Rs 4 lakh to a travel agent promising a high-paying job but faced unpaid wages and job loss. His passport was confiscated by his landlord, leading to police detention. Rajya Sabha MP Balbir Singh Seechewal helped secure his release, urging caution against fraudulent agents.
