An affidavit submitted to the National Green Tribunal (NGT) reveals significant gaps between waste generation and processing in Maharashtra's urban local bodies. Nagpur Municipal Corporation reported the highest daily unprocessed waste at 1,052 metric tonnes, followed by Thane Municipal Corporation at 898 metric tonnes. Greater Mumbai Municipal Corporation also faces a deficit of nearly 600 metric tonnes daily. Officials cite population density and land scarcity as contributing factors to these environmental compliance concerns.
