The Government of India has approved Chandigarh Administration's policy to provide monthly financial assistance of Rs 10,000 to acid attack survivors under the 'SAHAS' scheme. This aid will be integrated into existing schemes like the Union Territory of Chandigarh Victims Assistance Scheme 2012 or the Pension to Persons with Disabilities. Benefits will be disbursed via direct bank transfer with safeguards to prevent misuse. The approval was disclosed during a Punjab and Haryana High Court hearing on a contempt petition alleging previous delays in fulfilling this commitment.
