A new 18-foot-tall silver car, weighing approximately 430 kg, was inaugurated with a trial run at the Swami Nellaiyappar Ganthimathi Ambal Temple in Tirunelveli. The car was built using 425 kg of silver, largely donated by devotees and business people, after the temple's previous silver car was destroyed in a 1991 fire. The construction was funded through public donations and temple administration efforts.
