The district administration in Varanasi fined the Alaknanda cruise Rs 5,000 for polluting the Ganga river after a viral video showed sewage discharge from the cruise. A municipal corporation committee's probe found the cruise was under routine maintenance, and sewage flowed into the river from an emergency valve during inspection when a staff member used a toilet. The Pollution Control Board has issued a notice, and the cruise management was directed to install a separate tank to prevent future pollution.
