A new 'safe destination project' is planned for Pathankayam waterfalls in Kozhikode, aiming to prevent further drownings at the popular eco-tourism spot. The initiative, supported by the Tourism department and police, will focus on deploying trained lifeguards, mandating lifejacket use, and constructing barriers to block restricted access. The project, potentially funded by the State government's Destination Challenge Scheme, also considers a participatory village tourism model and CCTV installation to monitor prohibited areas.
