Prolonged exposure to vehicular pollution at busy traffic signals significantly increases the risk of heart attacks, according to a cardiologist. Dr. Madhur Yadav stated at the UP APICON 2025 conference that fine particulate matter, particularly PM2.5, from vehicle exhausts can enter the bloodstream, impair heart function, and trigger sudden cardiac events. He noted that approximately 50 percent of heart attack cases are now linked to air pollution, with vulnerable groups like children and seniors being at higher risk.
