Bonded Labourers Rescued in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruvallur and Erode Districts

Authorities rescued 78 bonded labourers, including 21 children, from a brick kiln in Tiruvallur district; the workers, from Odisha, had been held since January. Separately, 24 bonded labourers were freed in Erode district, where a man from Maharashtra was arrested for allegedly forcing workers from Madhya Pradesh into unpaid sugarcane harvesting. Both incidents highlight ongoing bonded labour issues in Tamil Nadu involving workers from other states.
