The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, has completed over 1,000 robotic-assisted surgeries within 13 months since acquiring the da Vinci surgical robot in November 2024. This milestone marks a significant advancement in public healthcare, offering minimally invasive, precise procedures with benefits such as reduced pain, lower infection rates, and shorter hospital stays. While robotic surgery remains limited in government hospitals, AIIMS has set a benchmark by deploying a dedicated robotic system primarily for complex gastrointestinal, oncological, and transplant surgeries. Challenges include limitations in trauma and emergency cases.
