Genetic Analysis Links Kerala's 2024 Mpox Outbreak to International Travel

A genetic analysis of Kerala's 2024 mpox outbreak linked most cases to international travel, primarily from the United Arab Emirates. Researchers from the Indian Council of Medical Research-National Institute of Virology studied 10 lab-confirmed cases of the Mpox virus Clade Ib strain from September 2024 to March 2025. The World Health Organization declared this strain a public health emergency in August 2024 due to its rapid spread and severity. Cases have also been reported in other countries including Sweden, the UK, and the US.
