
Maharashtra has over 1.04 lakh primary schools with approximately 1.45 crore students, and 29,641 secondary and higher secondary schools serving about 63.6 lakh students, according to the 2025-26 Economic Survey. The number of primary schools slightly increased, while rural school share and primary schools per thousand children marginally declined. Girls' enrolment rose slightly, and the pupil-teacher ratio improved. The government continues child welfare programs like ICDS and has increased the child budget share. Women's safety measures include fast-track courts and complaint redressal committees.
