Claudette Colvin, a civil rights pioneer who at age 15 refused to give up her bus seat in Montgomery, Alabama, died at 86 under hospice care in Texas. Her 1955 arrest preceded Rosa Parks' similar act and helped inspire the Montgomery Bus Boycott. Colvin was a plaintiff in Browder v. Gayle, the landmark case that ended bus segregation. Despite early obscurity due to social factors, her role has gained recognition for its legal and moral impact on civil rights.
