An interim report updating the 2024 State of the World's Migratory Species reveals that nearly half of the 1,189 species protected under the UN's Convention on Migratory Species face population declines, with 24 species now threatened with extinction. The report notes 26 species, including 18 migratory shorebirds, have moved to higher extinction risk categories, while seven species show improvement. Key threats include habitat loss, fragmentation, and overexploitation. Findings will be presented at the CMS COP15 meeting in Brazil.
