The West Bengal government has extended the cashless treatment facility beyond the existing Rs 2 lakh limit for pensioners under the West Bengal Health Scheme (WBHS). Previously, only in-service employees could avail medical advances beyond this cap. Now, pensioners or their representatives can apply for an extension through empanelled hospitals, which submit treatment cost estimates and prognosis reports. The Finance Department's medical cell will review these within 24 working hours, with automatic approval if no decision is made, allowing multiple extensions capped at 75% of estimated costs.
