
After nearly five decades, the Guruvayur Devaswom Board, which manages the Guruvayur Sree Krishna Temple in Kerala, appointed M U Shinija as its first woman member since the 1978 amendment of its rules. Her appointment on International Women's Day marks the return of female representation to the nine-member panel. Shinija was nominated as a representative of the Communist Party of India, and the new Board Chairman, A V Gopinath, welcomed this development.
