The Mumbai Fire Brigade inspected 1,221 establishments, including hotels, restaurants, and pubs, between December 22 and 28 for fire safety compliance ahead of New Year celebrations. While 1,146 were found compliant, 20 received notices and action was taken against 59 for violations. The MFB warned of strict action under the Maharashtra Fire Prevention Act for non-compliance, which can include fines, sealing premises, and utility disconnections. Electrical faults are a major cause of fires in Mumbai.
