Two sanitation workers, Karan Yadav and Ajay Dodi, died of asphyxiation after inhaling toxic gas while cleaning a sewerage chamber near Devi Ahilyabai Holkar fruit and vegetable market in Indore. A pipe from a sewer suction machine broke and fell into the chamber, prompting one worker to enter and fall unconscious, followed by the second who attempted a rescue. Eyewitnesses reported the workers lacked safety equipment and emergency services arrived two hours late. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav ordered Rs 30 lakh aid for each family, following Supreme Court guidelines.
