An official inquiry in Indore has confirmed the presence of bacteria commonly found in sewer water in drinking water samples, following a diarrhoea outbreak that has caused nine deaths and affected over 2,400 residents. While initial findings suggest a sewage leak into a water pipeline, further laboratory results are awaited to identify the specific bacteria. Residents had reported an unusual smell in the water supply since December 25, leading to a loss of trust in the local water supply.
