Over 1,000 doctor posts remain vacant across Jammu and Kashmir, with 797 vacancies in Kashmir and 288 in Jammu divisions. The Health Department has referred 480 medical officer posts to the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission for recruitment. To address shortages, the government is monitoring recruitment and promotion processes, deploying specialists contractually, utilizing National Health Mission schemes, and expanding telemedicine services. The establishment of seven new medical colleges has also reduced referral pressure on major hospitals by enhancing specialist services locally.
