A Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) study found that 26 percent of vegetable samples from Bengaluru and nearby districts contain lead levels exceeding safety limits, with brinjal, gourds, beans, and leafy greens notably affected. The investigation, conducted under National Green Tribunal directives, also detected multiple pesticide residues and heavy metals in soil samples. Experts warn that lead absorbed by plants poses health risks, including cardiovascular diseases, and emphasize the need for further research and farmer awareness to address contamination sources such as polluted irrigation water and traffic emissions.
