A survey by the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) India of 2,000 vehicle users in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad found that 96.5% would switch to less polluting or zero-emission vehicles if high-polluting vehicles were banned. Only 4% preferred paying a daily pollution charge to use such vehicles. The study supports implementing Low Emission Zones (LEZs), which restrict or charge high-polluting vehicles to improve air quality. LEZs have been effective in cities like London and encourage cleaner transport modes and infrastructure improvements.
